Ergometrics is excited to announce our support of and participation in the upcoming International Personnel Assessment Council (IPAC) conference! The conference is scheduled to be hosted in Las Vegas, NV this year between Sunday, July 22nd and Wednesday, July 25th.
Oscar Spurlin, Ph.D. will be hosting a 60 minute session titled Public Safety Physical Ability Testing, Analysis of the CPAT and Alternatives in the Laughlin Room on Monday, July 23rd at 1:30pm. This presentation will take a closer look at the actual physiological demands of the CPAT, and the rationale for simulation vs. standard exercise physical ability tests. Present research on an alternative protocol designed for incumbent firefighters will be discussed.
On Wednesday, July 25th at 8:30am in the Copper Room, Glenda Wonsock, M.A. and Julie Sampson, Ph.D. are hosting a 90 minute symposium titled Challenges and Results in the Development and Validation of Large Scale Video Based Simulations. This session will include discussion of the recent development of a situational judgment video based law enforcement test in two parts. Part one will include discussion of product design, approach to production and executing production. Part two will include presentation of approaches to criterion and content validation as well as validation results.

Carl Swander, Ph.D. and Mark Havener, Assistant Chief of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (Portland, OR Metropolitan Region) will be hosting a 90 minute presentation titled National Firefighter Testing Network: Streamlining Firefighter Recruitment and Testing in Room 201 on Wednesday, August 1st at 3:00pm. The workshop is designed for conference participants invested in the hiring of firefighters.
Dr. Swander and Assistant Chief Havener will present new concepts, focusing on cost reduction, consistency and efficiency during the recruitment and testing process. Attendees will learn how to increase diversity, elevate candidate satisfaction and increase defensibility of applicant testing. We welcome you to join us for this discussion and learn about these new concepts that are helping to elevate department’s screening practices.
